Web app or mobile app — which should your business choose?

Both can support the same process, but they differ in cost, distribution and access to device capabilities.

01

The main difference

A web application runs in a browser. Users open a web address and work on a computer, tablet or phone without installing the product from an app store.

A mobile application is installed from Google Play or Apple App Store. It can make better use of push notifications, the camera, location, background activity and other device capabilities.

02

When to choose a web app

Web apps are a strong fit for customer portals, B2B platforms, order management and internal tools. A responsive interface can also work well on phones.

  • the system is mainly for employees or partners
  • comfortable desktop work is important
  • you need dashboards, reports, forms or workflow tools
  • you want to publish updates without app-store approval
  • the first version should test the idea at a lower cost
03

When a mobile app has the advantage

Mobile products add store publication and platform maintenance. In many projects, however, one cross-platform codebase can support both Android and iOS.

  • people use the product on their phones every day
  • push notifications are important
  • the product relies on the camera, location or device files
  • some functions should work offline
  • app-store presence supports the product strategy
04

Cost and timeline of the first version

At CodaLumo, a basic web app MVP starts at PLN 8,900 net and usually takes 4–6 weeks. A mobile MVP for Android and iOS starts at PLN 14,900 net, with an indicative timeline of 6–10 weeks.

The final price depends on screens, user accounts, data, integrations, payments and the administration panel.

05

A safer route for a new idea

If the idea does not need phone-specific capabilities, a web app is often a sensible starting point. It lets you test the process with real users sooner and decide later whether a separate mobile product adds enough value.

The right choice comes from how the product will be used, not from technology trends. Describe the users, their primary task and their devices before requesting a quote.
